The UConn Huskies women’s basketball team was supposed to get an early season challenge from the No. 6 team, The Ohio State Buckeyes. Instead, it was just another blowout win for UConn women’s basketball.
Breanna Stewart led five Huskies in double figures with 24 points to help lead the UConn women’s basketball team to an 100-56 win over the Buckeyes at Value Center Arena in Columbus, OH.
It’s the season opening win for UConn women’s basketball who has now won 38 games in a row. Ohio State falls to 0-2 on the young season.
Stewart also added nine points and four blocks while her fellow All-American Moriah Jefferson had 21 points. Kia Nurse chipped in with 16 points with Morgan Tuck adding 15 points and nine rebounds. Sophomore Gabby Williams got her first career start and had a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds while adding four assists and four steals.
Shayla Cooper led the Buckeyes with 17 points and eight rebounds. Kianna Holland came off the bench to add nine points.
The UConn women’s basketball team is back in action next Monday night when they’ll host the Kansas State Wildcats at the XL Center in Hartford, CT.
